Taxonomy
Kingdom Phylum Class Order Family
PLANTAE TRACHEOPHYTA MAGNOLIOPSIDA FABALES FABACEAE
Scientific Name: Tephrosia brummittii
Species Authority: Schrire
Common Name/s:
-
Synonym/s: -
Taxonomic Notes: The distribution of Tephrosia brummittii shows a very disjunct distribution, with one cluster of records in the Eswatini highveld, and the remainder of the records occurring along the KwaZulu Natal coast.  It is therefore probable that they belong to different taxa, and there is a need for a review of the taxonomy for this species.

Justification:
Tephrosia brummittii was selected for assessment as a possible Eswatini near endemic.  However, further research revealed a very disjunct distribution, with the Eswatini records in a cluster in the highveld/upper middleveld in the north west of the country, and all the South African records are restricted to the coast of KwaZulu Natal.  It is therefore possible that these are taxonomically different.  If these are different taxa, the population of the Eswatini form has an estimated extent of occurrence of 166.859 km2, and estimated area of occupancy of 24 km2.  This would then be an Eswatini endemic and would require further assessment.  This species has therefore been assessed as Data Deficient for reasons of taxonomic uncertainty.
