Drimiopsis reilleyana is known from only two localities, and
based on its very restricted area of occupancy and extent of
occurrence, has been assessed as Vulnerable under Criterion D2.
One of the localities falls within a conservation area although this is
managed for large mammals, and the other is unprotected. At the
time of assessment, there was no available information on threats to
these subpopulations.

This plant is known from two localities in the Eswatini lowveld.
| Estimated area of occupancy (AOO) - in km2 | Justification |
|---|---|
| 8 | This species is known from two localities only. The estimated area of occupancy was calculated using GeoCAT (Bachman et al. 2011), with the standard 2x2 km grid cell being applied. |
Continuing decline in area of occupancy (AOO): (Not specified)
Extreme fluctuations in area of occupancy (AOO): (Not specified)
| Estimated extent of occurrence (EOO)- in km2 | EOO estimate calculated from Minimum Convex Polygon | Justification |
|---|---|---|
| 8 | true | This species is known from two localities only. The estimated extent of occurrence calculated using GeoCAT (Bachman et al. 2011) was 0 km2, less than the area of occupancy, so the higher figure has been used here. |
Continuing decline in extent of occurrence (EOO): (Not specified)
Extreme fluctuations in extent of occurrence (EOO): (Not specified)
| Number of Locations | Justification |
|---|---|
| 2 | This species is known from one locality within Mkhaya Game Reserve, and one other, about 15 km away. It is therefore considered to be found in two locations. |

| Conservation Actions | Note |
|---|---|
| 1.2. Land/water protection -> Resource & habitat protection | Some form of protection of the locality currently outside any formal conservation areas would enhance the probability of survival for this species. |
| 3.4.2. Species management -> Ex-situ conservation -> Genome resource bank | Collection of material for ex-situ conservation would reduce the possibility of extinction for this species. |
| Research | Note |
|---|---|
| 1.2. Research -> Population size, distribution & trends | There is currently no information on population sizes and trends, and further fieldwork would be desirable to determine if this species is found in any additional localities. |
| 1.3. Research -> Life history & ecology | Currently, very little is known about the life history and ecology of this species. Research into this plant would provide more information on how best to conserve this species. |
