Since 2018 the project had successfully organized monthly Farmer's Markets at the centre. The intent of the market is to support local farmers, gardeners, and producers by providing a trading post where they are able to sell/trade their homegrown and homemade products. This provides the public the option of healthier food choices, and the awareness and understanding of where their products are coming from.
The following year the market also hosted an urban garden competition to encourage residents of Mbabane and surrounding areas to start their very own garden. 4 contestants had entered the competition and information on the winners is on our facebook page.
Detailed market information and events can be found on the facebook page: www.facebook.com/ekuphilenifarmers/
At the start of 2019 SHP in collaboration with PELUM Swaziland along with a few other individuals have been working together in starting an urban garden in the heart of Mbabane. This flourishing green space will help improve sustainability, healthy living, and environmental values with demonstrations of agro-ecological land and water use. It will be a centre to host events along with training opportunities and a community garden space for the benefit of the city and its residents. The monthly Farmer's Market will be relocated to the centre to operate on a weekly basis where fresh vegetables can be harvested directly from the garden.
As the project remains to be a work in progress, it continues to be in search of acceptance of material and monetary donations. Donations can be made by visiting our donations page. Detailed information can be found on the facebook page: www.facebook.com/mbabaneurbangarden/
